Windows 2012 looks great, but it must be said it does still rather feel like it is half finished.
Compatability between the 2012 Windows operating System management tools and backward compatability to Microsofts management software seems some of the worst issues.
As always a change in operating system design is certainly an eye opener!
Below is a small list of some observations upon items that we feel that Microsoft should address:
- The Hyper-V 2012 management tools are not backward compatible to 2008 and 2008 R2 hyper-v servers.
- The server management “search for” servers function only supports 2012 servers.
- The log off feature for terminal server users has been located in an non intuitive location for end users encouraging disconnect sessions.
- Exchange 2010 management tools are not supported as standard upon Microsoft Windows 2012 server.
- The user interface follows a touch screen design which is not sensible for enterprise topologies.
- Folders cannot be pinned to the task bar with sub folders underneath making for a messy layout of items that should be categorised together.
We have more issues to discuss but wanted to flag some of the immediate issues that we have seen.
